As we dig around for background on design decisions made all those years ago, references to past residents crop up. Here are the first two. Many past residents stay in touch; the largest group of course is through the RAF Seletar association.
According to her profile by NLB, Violet Oon was born in 1949 to a Peranakan family……She had moved into a semi-detached house at Seletar Airbase in the mid-90s Here she cultivated a fruit and vegetable garden and continued her cooking career.
Another former resident profiled by NLB is sculptor Han Sai Por is noted for her sculptures carved in stone, bringing to life figurative forms and organic shapes to hefty granite blocks. Some of her works are on permanent displays in Singapore’s hotels, libraries and Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations as well as in parks of Malaysia, Japan, United States and England. Han was awarded the 1995 Cultural Medallion for her contribution to art. Until 2006, she lived in a two-storey house within the compounds of Seletar Airbase
